[This is perplexing. Why on earth is that tome on that shelf? It's about the fundamentals of conjury, of all things...!
A young woman stands staring up rather intensely at a shelf, arm stretched out, trying to grab for one of the books. She can JUST feel the spine of the book against the tips of her fingers, but no matter how she stretches or how she postures on the tips of the toes of her boots, she just can't seem to reach the TOP of the book, nor can she get her wrist past the edge of the shelf enough to grip the sides of the tome to scoot it from between the others. All this even WITH the assistance of the tallest step ladder they have in their shared home. The result is a rather comical image, most likely, akin to that of a child trying to get to something their parents have put out of their reach on purpose.
What most others don't know about her though, is that Toh'ni actually has quite the stubborn streak, so the fact that she can FEEL the book but not quite GRASP it only pushes her even further at first. Tail starting to lash a bit back and forth, and a mutter slips free as if she's trying to speak the book into cooperating.
"Just... come... here!"
Alas, to no avail. Finally she has to relent with a frustrated and disappointed sigh. She was so very CERTAIN she'd put this book on a lower shelf, and now she has need of it to form a study plan for new students in the guild, and of course she can't reach it.
Could she simply write the plans from memory? Probably, but that wasn't good enough. Toh'ni preferred, always, to double and even triple check her work. When it came to the study of the various magic disciplines of Eorzea sometimes even one word or phrase out of place could lead to misunderstandings and disaster. And besides, it HAS been a long time since she studied these founding principles. A refresher never hurt, and sometimes one could discover new meaning in words they haven't visited in quite some time. In any case, she needs that book!
This time she gives off a soft noise of frustration, growing visibly flustered at her lack of success.]
[He'd actually been watching her for quite some time.
Feigning interest in the open tome in his lap, he'd caught her reaching for the book out of the corner of his eye. With her back turned he'd lifted his head to watch with great amusement. Okay, maybe this was a little mean but he had expected her to stop trying after a few seconds and when she didn't he couldn't help but keep watching. He tries not to laugh at her stubbornness over something so mundane and barely manages to stifle it.
After a few moments he figures she's suffered long enough and he closes the book, setting it aside so he can stand up. He steps up quietly behind her, purposefully trying to not to be noticed. She can probably feel his presences though so it was likely a wasted effort.]
You seem to be having some trouble there.
[He gives her something of a mischievous smile.] I was half anticipating you'd start climbing the shelf.
