[ Rocks falling from the sky is absolutely not a new thing, though she can personally count on both hands the number of times she's had to deal with them.
Hey, the road to Greece was paved with danger, okay?
Jason was likely on his way but being on the other side of town wasn't helping their case, and it wasn't as if he could afford to leave his peace talk with the local nymphs. He'd sworn to her he could handle it himself and Piper had been trying to pass the time NOT worrying about him being without backup.
That's when the Akuma had shown up and, well, naturally she was running TOWARDS danger, as you do when you're a demigod, and following Cat Noir's advice from before.
Look for him the next time she sees trouble. Right, well, shouldn't be too hard to spot a black leather clad blond, yeah? There's one now, in fact, speeding towards her only a bit faster than that... large... shado-oh shit!
Her battle reflexes kicked in but they needn't have. Cat Noir swooped in for the rescue, literally, and as Piper held on for dear life out of surprise, she realizes she's off the ground. She's still holding on plenty tight, but trying not to hinder. The rush isn't QUITE the same, but damn close to the one she gets flying with Jason. ]
[ Adrenaline keeps him from feeling most of her weight. He grins, reveling her surprised reaction as swerves left and right to avoid the continuous onslaught from above. Every once and a while he glances back to make sure Ladybug isn't in trouble, but of course, his lady has things under control... relatively speaking, at least.
She'll need him soon.
He finally settles atop one of Paris's larger department stores a good distance away from the action—a favorite of Chloe's where she liked to drag him to go shopping at least a couple times a month. Behind them, a neon sign flashed the department store's name.
It isn't until he sets Piper down that he feels his arms turn to noodles, but he's good at not letting it show. ]
[ This is absolutely surreal, being carried around by a superhero. Jason is one thing, especially as they've gotten older and he's gotten stronger, but this is just unreal. There's definitely an exhale of exhilaration when they set down and Piper gets back to standing on her own, taking a few steps before turning to face him.
Also, thanks for not letting on about the weight bit. She's no Drew or Chloe but not even Piper wants to hear that she's heavy. ]
Considering you just saved me from becoming a demigod flatbread, yeah. Thanks for that, by the way. So, what, [ Her head jerks as she nods her chin in the direction of the chaos. ] is this another Akuma attack?
[ Yeeeah, she's a girl, and Cat just knows better. He doesn't want her thinking he's anything less than strong and capable, anyway! Sooo he's turning his head in the direction of the attack, shaking it off so to speak, as he observes the flash of red buzzing around the scene.
Good. Ladybug's still holding up, but he definitely needs to be there for her.
He turns back to Piper hurriedly, already stepping away. ]
Right! I'd give you a prize, but... you know. Busy. [ He gestures at the chaos. ]
Catch up later?
[ It's phrased like a question, but there's a wink, a salute, and...oops, is he about to jump off the building? ]
Adieu!
OTHER TAG WHEN I GET HOME where I already got it halfway done.orz (sob)
[ Smart kitty. Up until he tries to leave her behind, that is. Oh no. She's not sitting out if she can help. It surprises her to realize how restless she's been lately, but between waiting around being antsy for Jason to return- and it's not like she has Katoptris to show her how he's doing anymore -and the lack of monster attacks in Paris... No, she's got some energy to burn for sure.
It all happens rather quickly, including Piper's reaction. He's just put his foot up on the ledge when Piper steps forward too and catches him with her words, putting emphasis on them, power into them. ]
[ Not literally, of course, but they may as well have, for how useful they're being to him right now. They remain stubborn and firm, no matter how hard he wills them forward and off the building.
That being said, Cat can only resist for a moment, flailing at the edge of the roof with eyes wide like a scared rookie. He gasps, but something washes over him then, an expected warmth pulsing through his body. ]
[ The rebellion is gone from his eyes. He regains his balance. All he can hear is the beat of his own racing heart, and Piper's words echoing in his head like they're the only things that matter.
He doesn't remember stepping calmly down from the ledge, nor turning to face Piper, staring like he's waiting for more orders; yet that's exactly where he finds himself when the spell wears off.
[ Piper watches calmly, if with a twinge of guilt. It's been a while since she broke that out on someone and doing it in the middle of a fight without any sort of warning isn't her idea of a good way to break the ice. Oh hey I have this really stupidly strong power of suggestion, did I forget to mention that?
Screams "TRUST ME!!!!!" it does not. ]
I'll explain later, but I'm coming with you. I can help.
[ Not a lot of time for arguing, either, so she'll hope he sees her side. ]
[ She heads for the ledge completely unperturbed by the height OR Cat Noir's expression, and instead gives him a look half-expectant and half-determined with just a bit of mirth squeezed in between. ]
So what's it gonna be, bring me along where you can keep an eye on me, or leave me behind to get into gods know what kind of trouble?
[ She's grinning, knowing that the choice is no choice at all, but she's determined to do this. ]
[ Cat is already extending his staff, stepping up to the ledge in front of her before she can get there so that he can lower himself and invite her on.
It's not gonna be the most comfortable ride, buuut she asked for it. ]
We're strictly "No Heroes Left Behind" here in Paris.
Also, for the record? You've got nothing to worry about from Jason. He knows I don't need any help getting into trouble. [ She quips casually as she takes the offer, holding on securely and with a laugh at the ear comment. ]
Sure, no problem. Alright, Tom Cat, let's go deal with an akuma.
[ And so that's exactly what they did. It took a bit to find their stride with Piper in the mix, but eventually thanks to a mix of teamwork and Ladybug's Lucky Charm™ they were able to take down the Akuma and had parted ways, mostly because of Ladybug's time nearly being up, but Piper could tell by the look on her face that the next time she saw the heroine she was going to have to answer some Questions.
Meanwhile, as the three split up Piper took to a fire escape to get on top of a nearby roof, and waited. She'd promised an explanation and she was sure that Cat Noir would be finding her sooner rather than later, so she might as well stick close.
Sure enough it wasn't long before the tell tell clunk-clunk-clunk of his staff on concrete and stone could be heard, and then there he was, popping into view. Piper turns to face him calmly. ]
[ It goes swimmingly, which is all well and convenient. There's nothing quite like leaping on top of a building that had been rubble not hours ago, after all. Rooftop after rooftop, without a single scratch to their surface.
Ladybug's powers really are amazing.
The metallic clang from his staff finally comes to a stop when he spots Piper, and he cracks his usual Cat Noir trademark smile. ]
Yeah, yeah. Not bad, chère.
...But I didn't come all this way just to hear "I told you so."
[ You've got one powerful girlfriend there, that's for sure, Cat. She can turn back time, essentially, and just the parts that matter, and in a way that doesn't negate the lesson to be learned. Pretty amazing. If demigods had that sort of power, or if the gods could be arsed enough to care more often...
Well, it is what it is, for better or for worse. Better in this case.
At his comment, getting straight to the point, Piper goes to take a seat on the roof, back bracing against a chimney as she looks up at Cat Noir. Now that the urgency is gone, shit, she really hopes her earlier actions DON'T come back to bite her. Trust is something she finds a fine line to walk when her powers get involved. She has no doubt that someone less morally ambiguous would find her abilities unsettling, but she supposes she hadn't stopped to wonder where Cat might fall on that spectrum since he'd presented himself as so easy going. Now she hopes she hasn't just burned a bridge still technically under construction. ]
Yeah, I kinda figured you'd have a few questions. Sit with me? I promise, no marching orders unless you ask me to.
[ If he asks for a demonstration, that's fair game. ]
[ She doesn't have to ask twice. Cat takes a seat next to her and leans back against the same chimney.
It feels...well, a little awkward. Not because of Piper, but because he doesn't generally make it a habit to get comfortable when he's transformed. But Plagg's eaten his fill, and he trusts his friend won't let him down. ]
Gotta admit: the moment's kind of a blur, so I don't even know where to start.
All I know is that I was about to vault off the roof, aaand... then I was staring at you.
[ There's a brief look of discomfort, edging really close to guilt. It flashes through her eyes as she watches him and listens to his perspective. She's never ASKED what it felt like to be charmspoken before, but she's felt it's effects if just fleetingly. Her own powers dampened most charmspeak at least a bit, though, so she's never felt it full tilt. Hearing Cat Noir talk about it reminds her why she dislikes using it more than necessary, or maybe just a bit teasingly now and then. ]
Yeah... So... Sorry about that. I try not to use it out of the blue like that, but honestly, following you was one of those "easier said than done" things.
[ So, she'd needed to stop him short. Still, she figures she owes him the courtesy of an explanation now, so no holds barred. She can't say why, maybe it's the superhero bit, but she trusts him enough to tell him. Something about him puts her a little more at ease than most strangers, too, maybe she feels a little more kinship than she first thought or let on? ]
At first I didn't know what it was, either. When I was younger I used to use it to talk people into giving me things. It always came back to bite me in the butt, but I didn't really care.
[ She leans her head back, gazing up towards the sky in reflection. ]
My relationship with my dad is pretty... I don't know, complicated doesn't really fit right, but... My point is, I did it for attention, and once I learned how powerful and dangerous it was I swore I wouldn't be so reckless with it. It kind of makes you stop and think about what you say before you blurt it out.
[ Someone who charmspeaks can't be careless and blurt out hurtful things, because the people they love may be compelled to believe it, or act on it. "I hate you!" or "I wish you weren't my dad!"... or worse... Yeah. It's definitely tempered her reactions, even if just subconsciously. ]
Even for Cat, who tends to be the less serious one when it comes to heroing, this is...more than he was prepared for. He draws in a breath as it sinks in, and it slowly dawns on him what she was really saying.
That she had the power of persuasion on her side.
That Piper being "irresistable" was way more literal than he had believed. ]
Sooo... wait, y-you— you really controlled me? This is really a thing?
You could've been like, "Hey, Cat, give me 100 euros," and I would've just...done it?
Suddenly he's standing. Of course, he doesn't have to ask, because he knows what just happened. He can tell. ]
Trippy.
[ He looks around, especially at himself, as if to make sure nothing was broken or changed, then he's staring at Piper again.
Some of her words finally sink in from before... about her father, about her power coming back to bite her, and while he's still not quite sure what to say, he knows she considers it both a gift and a curse.
He flashes a small smile. ]
Sorry for making you do that, but I wanted to be sure.
