[Annabeth had tricked him. It was totally unfair and totally rude (and totally sneaky and clever, which suited Annabeth's style just fine), but she had tricked him. When Percy heard the word "California" and "trip" he immediately thought of a vacation. Gaea had been defeated. The seven had a little downtime before school started for all of them. A vacation was definitely in order.
But as it turned out when they turned up in Malibu it wasn't for a beach vacation as he had hoped. He couldn't help as he watched in brief disbelief as Annabeth marched up to the McLean Mansion like she truly belonged there (though, of course, he didn't realize it was Piper's house at all) and he quickly followed, grabbing her arm to stop her.
Too late. She knocked and Percy frowned, frown shifting to surprise the moment Jason Grace answered the door with a backpack instead. Annabeth took Percy's hand and smiled, leading him into the house to where Piper was also waiting.
Somehow the details were a little fuzzy as Percy listened to the two blondes explain to them that they had a quick quest to run and that they shouldn't be gone for more than a week, and it was only then, belatedly, that Percy realized that it wasn't a vacation. He was being dropped off to be babysat and while he didn't appreciate the implication he was a little more concerned about where Annabeth and Jason were going.
With promises of being careful and kisses exchanged, the blondes disappeared and left Percy and Piper to their own devices. He couldn't help but let his eyes roam the interior of the house, realizing it was probably as big as his entire apartment complex, before settling on Piper's face with a somewhat half-hearted grin.]
It's almost like they don't even trust us.
A thousand years late, but thank you for being down to keep going! <3
1: Her boyfriend knows better than to try to pull an Annabeth on her.
2: She's in good with said daughter of Athena and was in on the planning from jump street.
3: Her father's busy schedule coming in handy for once, since it meant he couldn't really be around to hover and be a protective dad while Jason and Percy were visiting. Though there's no denying it would've been a GREAT change of pace to see him be such a stereotypical dad
She kind of felt almost sorry for Percy, in all honesty, because everyone around him was in on the plan save for him. Piper definitely HAD to be in on it, though, to get the okay in the first place for a "friend" to stay over for the week, with some measure of supervision (naturally). Still, that was only almost, because the look on his face when everything was laid out in front of him was also kind of funny.
Also, the irony of them entrusting the second biggest troublemaker of their group (Leo will always hold that top spot in Piper's eyes) to the care of the third biggest troublemaker? Kind of priceless.
So, in any event, yes. Heartfelt well wishes for a safe quest, promises to return with goodies and good news, with all that said and done it was soon down to just the two brunettes. Piper stood alongside Percy with her arms casually folded across her chest and a tiny little smirk of amusement curving at her lips as she glanced in his direction. The smirk shifted into a toothy grin at his remark. ]
Speak for yourself, Jackson.
[ Piper teased with a laugh and gave his shoulder a light, playful shove before she turned to head further into the house, expecting he'd follow.
Hey, Jason and Annabeth TRUSTED her. It wasn't her fault if that trust in her staying out of trouble was somewhat misplaced. ]
Honestly I'm surprised. I kind of expected a way bigger argument over all this.
<3! sorry for the delay and also casually swaps to the journal that actually has icons
[She's not wrong. He follows nearly immediately because a.) it's Piper and he doesn't mind spending time with people he knows and likes and b.) like, yeah, her house is huge. It's a lot to take in and it's easier to be distracted by that than sulking further about how he was betrayed by his two favorite (and only, maybe) blondes. He's quick to keep up even as his gaze shifts over the walls and the ceiling.]
Have you ever met Annabeth? [Dryly. Oh so dryly.] I've never won an argument in my life against her. I could probably take Jason, but I'm pretty sure he already lost against her, too.
[ Cat Noir decided to watch as Piper escorted her boyfriend back into the building. Just as a formality, of course. He’s pretty certain his Lady’s Miraculous healed over any serious, lasting injuries from the attack (as it usually did), but the whole ordeal seemed to affect these two a little differently than their usual Parisian victims, so he deemed the matter worthy of his extra attention.
(That, and he was procrastinating on going home to his father’s piano lesson, but that’s neither here nor there.)
Jason remembered being akumatized, for one. Cat can’t quite remember that ever happening before—not even with himself, when he’s been the victim an akuma. For two, well...frankly, it’s the first time Ladybug and he ever showed up after the victim was already subdued.
So that was...different.
It didn’t leave Cat much to do. He hadn’t used Cataclysm, so his Miraculous timer hadn’t started blinking to remind him to take his leave.
He certainly doesn’t expect to see either of them so soon (at least, not as Cat Noir), but when the door opens, he doesn’t even have a chance to hide.
Not that he really needed to. Why would he? The surprise wears off pretty quickly once he sees Piper; the way her hair falls perfectly over her shoulders when she turned...
He catches himself staring for a moment before he gives her a playful salute, accompanied by his usual charming smile. ]
Hello, again.
[ Out again so soon? he wants to ask, but even he’s not that nosy.
[ Being a demigod, Piper was used to all kinds of "strange". The new strange for them was waking up in the morning and NOT having to deal with any monster attacks, or quests, or favors for unsettled nymphs or dryads in the area who needed them to have a word with their rude neighbors.
They'd had a year and a half of relative peace after the Prophecy of Seven ended and while Piper was under no illusion that life would just magically settle into place, she did think maybe they were done with life-shaking developments.
She'd convinced Jason to take a bit of down time from doing the whole augur-slash-"spokesperson for the gods" bit, for just a small step back, go on vacation with she and her father to Paris. Seriously, a once in a lifetime kind of opportunity, even for world traveled demigods like themselves- no world ending quests looming overhead or anything! Instead, the compromise was to turn his attention to some of the minor gods he'd learned had relocated there in the last few centuries.
Fair enough, she'd take it.
Now, to be fair, Paris is everything she'd imagined it would be and more, because Jason is there with her. That alone made the trip worth any sort of weirdness they might encounter, but now she's not so sure what she's unintentionally gotten them into.
Sighing, Piper placed a kiss on Jason's forehead before stepping back and letting him settle in to rest. He needed to sleep if just for a little while, after being... what had those two called it? "Akumatized"? Yeah, what the hell was up with that, exactly?
Well, while Jason slept, she'd get some fresh air and maybe some answers. ]
And you were doing so well breaking that streak of yours, Sparky.
[ The smile is small, but no less warm as with one last touch- tucking some hair away from his face -Piper turned to head back downstairs and outside.
... And right onto Jason's balcony where Cat Noir was still perched.
Friggin superheroes. If Leo were here he'd never let them hear the end of it.
An eyebrow arches in surprise, but Piper quickly finds that she can't help but smile. They'd helped them out, gotten Jason back to normal, and really she couldn't even begin to try to describe how much of a relief that was, how much she'd appreciated their help. She was struck by the sudden urge to tease him by flicking that bell on his costume and calling him a "good kitty" as thanks, but- probably better not to risk offending him or making things awkward.
Still.
SO tempting. ]
I didn't expect you to stick around, not that I'm complaining... It was Cat Noir, right?
[ She shuts the door quietly behind her, mostly at least, leaving it cracked a bit so she'd be able to hear it if Jason stirred inside, or if there were some sign of trouble. After that though she strolled over to stand a few feet down the railing from the black clad hero. A boy, younger than both she and Jason if she had to guess. Not too young to be doing this kind of thing, considering demigods, but she wondered if that's what he was with those powers. ]
Thanks again for your help back there. You really helped us out.
[ Cat beams, clearly pleased that she bothered to remember his name in all the chaos. The way she said it, he suspects that maybe it’s a little hard for her to take seriously; but Cat’s not a serious kind of guy, and her gratitude seemed no less genuine.
He takes it as an invitation, but only steps as far as the balcony, joining her. ]
Oh, I can’t take too much credit. Ladybug did most of the work this time around, but...I did want to make sure he was alright.
[ He peers over Piper’s shoulder to the door, then makes eye contact with her again in silent question. A cheeky grin lights his face. ]
[ For once, she'd been hoping that a fresh start would actually go WELL. For once, she was actually hopeful to start over at a new school. It wasn't like she was going to go out of her way to stand out and make friends, but it was the closest she'd ever come to actually getting what she really wanted: some form of a real relationship with her father, even if it was for the wrong reasons. Nothing new there. So why, then, when she was actually TRYING to be on good behavior, did everything else in the universe conspire to make her life weird?
No, you think that's an exaggeration, but really: First, she learned she was moving to Paris with her father. Piper was pretty sure that by the time she graduates (assuming she ever actually accumulated enough credits to do so) she will have traveled more of the country and more of the WORLD than any teenager her age.
She should have been thrilled, her father was actually paying attention to her for once! The only problem being that it was because he maybe suspected she was losing her mind a little, and honestly after the things she'd seen recently she wondered if he wasn't right.
Those girls back at her last private school, there had been something off about them, and then they'd picked a fight with her. She's still not sure if what she thinks happened actually happened or if she was experiencing some sort of fever dream from the concussion she'd suffered, but it had been the final straw for Tristan in a lot of ways.
If local private school was proving to be too much for her, maybe they should try something else. She'd feared the worst at first, that he'd finally be sending her off on her own, but apparently shaken by her recent experience he'd instead decided to keep her close and bring her with him to Paris, France. He was an international star, sure, but mildly less well known in other countries, so naturally, a move overseas, and France seemed as good a place as any.
Then, finding out that she could SOMEHOW already perfectly understand and speak French. Coupled with her weird power of persuasion and her recent ordeal with those catty girls who... apparently never existed...
Well, Piper wasn't eager to be labeled as full on crazy, so she'd quickly made up an excuse that she'd been studying it in secret for a while, and tried to fake being only passably fluent. Unfortunately the crazy just kept on coming. Some gorgeous, super model looking woman had turned up on their doorstep while her father was out, claiming to be- get this -her mother. Again, that should have been an amazing experience and instead it was just... awkward, and strange, and uncomfortable. There was some curiosity, of course, but suddenly having her intruding on their lives and being so affectionate, while also refusing to wait for her father to come back... that was just unsettling in the most literal sense of the word. Then there was that weird vibe that the woman gave off and-
"Your first day of school?! How exciting! Well we HAVE to get you a new wardrobe!"
"Wait, what-"
"And a make over!"
"Uh. No."
"And a HAIRCUT."
"Seriously!? WHO ARE YOU?!"
God, just thinking back on it made her head hurt. Finally she got answers as to who her mother was- or CLAIMED to be -and even SHE was convinced she was nuts after having met the woman.
Honestly, though, NONE of that would have topped waking up the next morning and finding herself changed.
So, yeah. A day spent being the center of everyone's attention in her new class, getting stares from almost everyone she walked by on the street, and being completely unable to do anything with the make up and hair- freaked out didn't really cover it. By the time she was done dealing with Chloe Bourgeois Piper was 100% done with the day.
She gave her legs a tired kick from where she was sitting on one of the highest platforms of the Eiffel Tower. Most romantic spot in maybe all of the world, and she'd come there to brood.
She huffed, shutting her eyes and leaning her head back to try to just enjoy the wind, let it calm her down. And hey, if it mussed up this stupid new hairdo, all the better. ]
[ “I can’t believe you waited in line,” Plagg said.
“What? Everybody has to wait in line. Besides, they let me through.”
“Yeah! After someone finally noticed who you were! Next time you gotta speak u—“
Adrien only barely allowed the sentence to be finished, shoving his friend deeper into his jacket and tugging it closed around his body. A satisfied smirk lights his face as he shook his head.
Meanwhile, the elevator he’s been riding rises higher and higher up the Eiffel Tower. ]
Should’ve just let me transform.
[ His voice was sing-song, and he hoped Plagg could hear it. ]
[ Why was it so important to him anyway, to find this new girl?
Maybe it was just hormones. She was undeniably pretty—everyone noticed. Nobody let him forget it.
Maybe it was Chloe. Maybe the way things ended between the two girls just...didn’t sit right with him, and he just wanted to make it right, even if Chloe didn’t.
Maybe he just remembers being the new kid, and he wanted to make things easier on her.
He thinks of a million and one reasons while he patiently waits for the elevator doors to open at the top, but all leave him once they do.
When he finally finds Piper, sitting alone way up there, he has to will himself to keep from staring—blinking once as he approaches, hand raised in greeting. ]
Uh, hi.
[ Just call him Smooth Operator, tbh. ]
How did you—?
[ —get up there?
Security doesn’t seem to bothering her, even a little. Though that really isn’t the point of Adrien following her... ]
[ She can honestly say that she did NOT expect anyone to find her up here so quickly. It seems like she's barely been there for twenty minutes when a familiar voice calls out to her from below on the observation deck. Surprised, she glances down, then carefully gets a bit closer to the edge to peer over the side.
Adrien Agreste, that boy she'd met a few days before school started.
Why does she get the impression that his being here isn't a simple coincidence...? ]
I climbed, of course.
[ She isn't saying it that way to be a smartass, though the wording may make it sound like it, the tone is more amused than anything. ]
... You're not going to tell security, are you?
[ She's incredibly mindful not to put too much emphasis on her asking, not wanting to make him do something- or NOT do something -against his will by accident. Kind of a strange feeling trying to AVOID getting into too much trouble for a change. She's got a fairly good thing going here, though, if she can just find her proverbial footing. She doesn't want to risk messing it up by making her father think she hasn't changed at all, isn't trying.
The look she regards Adrien with is both curious and maybe a little skeptical. The next question is on the tip of her tongue but she holds it for now. It's still written all over her face, though. "Why did you follow me?" Her shifting eyes seem to be asking. Because, really, isn't he friends with that Chloe girl? The way she goes on about "Adrikens" this and literally throws herself all over the boy not only makes Piper want to gag, but makes her skin crawl, maybe in part put off because he doesn't seem to really object. She knows Chloe's type, can't stand it, but out of the entire class it's only Adrien that really doesn't seem to mind.
[ It hasn't been a great day, but she's handling it alright because her days since the talk with Adrien on the tower have been pretty... good. Strange a concept as having a good time at school being social is, she's getting to like it slowly but surely.
Today came one of the downsides, though. When Piper was invisible she didn't tend to get noticed by boys, but since trying to come out of her shell a bit she's felt the uncomfortable sensation of being watched. Maybe at first she could've dismissed it as her old tendency to avoid spotlight making her acutely aware of the attention NOW, but she wasn't convinced. Then not too long ago she'd gotten confirmation she wasn't simply imagining things. One of their schoolmates had approached her, trying to score a date, and for her part she'd let him down as subtly as possible before finally having to be more direct. He'd brought it on himself for refusing to take no for an answer but she wouldn't have been so blunt if he hadn't insisted on pushing her so hard.
Fists loosely balled she's still a little on edge when she rounds the corner for the stairwell, planning on sneaking up onto the roof if she could find a door and stairway leading up to it. ]
[ Adrien just so happens to be going the opposite way around the same corner, nearly running into her in a super cliche scene out of an anime, but he just barely manages to freeze and avoid this. Luckily he'd been paying attention. He backtracks a couple steps to give her space, and to recover from the shock. ]
Whoa, hey.
[ Careful, he thinks, though it really doesn't need to be said. ]
[ Both of their reflexes spare them that embarrassing encounter, with Piper stopping short and startling at Adrien's sudden appearance. She almost jumped out of her skin, though, and then lets out a breath of relief. Just Adrien, not that guy again. ]
Sorry, I was just distracted. This guy was- ... Never mind.
By which he means there are very heavy rocks and things falling from the sky? You maaay want to get out of the way there, big sis, being that you can't actually charmspeak rocks (please don't try).
What's that? No? Is that your guard down he sees?
Well, okay. Don't mind Cat Noir sweeping you off your feet then, quite literally, while Ladybug deals with the offending akuma.
He slams his staff into the ground, leaping into Piper and they both shoot into the air as he's scanning the area for a safe spot to take her. Concentrating on this task doesn't actually keep his mouth shut though.
[ Rocks falling from the sky is absolutely not a new thing, though she can personally count on both hands the number of times she's had to deal with them.
Hey, the road to Greece was paved with danger, okay?
Jason was likely on his way but being on the other side of town wasn't helping their case, and it wasn't as if he could afford to leave his peace talk with the local nymphs. He'd sworn to her he could handle it himself and Piper had been trying to pass the time NOT worrying about him being without backup.
That's when the Akuma had shown up and, well, naturally she was running TOWARDS danger, as you do when you're a demigod, and following Cat Noir's advice from before.
Look for him the next time she sees trouble. Right, well, shouldn't be too hard to spot a black leather clad blond, yeah? There's one now, in fact, speeding towards her only a bit faster than that... large... shado-oh shit!
Her battle reflexes kicked in but they needn't have. Cat Noir swooped in for the rescue, literally, and as Piper held on for dear life out of surprise, she realizes she's off the ground. She's still holding on plenty tight, but trying not to hinder. The rush isn't QUITE the same, but damn close to the one she gets flying with Jason. ]
[ Adrenaline keeps him from feeling most of her weight. He grins, reveling her surprised reaction as swerves left and right to avoid the continuous onslaught from above. Every once and a while he glances back to make sure Ladybug isn't in trouble, but of course, his lady has things under control... relatively speaking, at least.
She'll need him soon.
He finally settles atop one of Paris's larger department stores a good distance away from the action—a favorite of Chloe's where she liked to drag him to go shopping at least a couple times a month. Behind them, a neon sign flashed the department store's name.
It isn't until he sets Piper down that he feels his arms turn to noodles, but he's good at not letting it show. ]
[ It hadn't been the easiest thing to arrange, especially since she refused to cash in on her dad's name to do it, but eventually Piper had worked out the details to the point she's comfortable putting her plan into action.
It's the most uncharacteristic thing she's done to date, planning a picnic with a guy who for all intent and purpose she ACTUALLY has a bit of a crush on but who she won't move in on because she knows a sweet girl who is also incredibly sweet on him and has known him for longer- BUT. It's not going to stop her from texting him to join her. I mean, this is technically unrelated. It's technically not a date at all. So it's fine. Right?
... Right?
This doesn't make her a terrible classmate does it.... ]
Hey, think you can slip out for a few hours to hang out? I had something I wanted to show you.
[ It's strange to think that nothing had changed. They'd made such a big deal about keeping their secrets, he never thought about what it'd be like, to have someone to share it with.
Granted, he still needs to tell Ladybug. He promised himself that he would, but that's a problem he'd have to tackle on his own. Piper had her own to worry about, and he wasn't going to drag her into things needlessly. Not when it was this personal.
With these thoughts lingering in his mind, fresh out of battle with an akuma where he'd been forced to use Cataclysm, he returns to class from an overly long lunch break. He suspects Marinette won't be too far behind him; it usually tends to work out that way, he's noticed.
But instead of thinking about that, he's distracted by the crowd of his classmates surrounding Piper, who all turn their heads at him as soon as he walks through the door. Miss Bustier was nowhere to be seen.
[ She'd rather have been out there fighting the damn Akuma. Why did this happen to her? Why her?? What was so fascinating about her love life, anyway?
This is all Adrien's fault. Him and his stupid, sweet, charming, attractive-
"Come ON, Piper, spill! We won't tell a soul!"
"It's someone from our class, isn't it? That's soooo romantic!"
Rose, Alya, no why are you doing this to her?
She's about ready for the floor to open up beneath her and swallow her up, or maybe for that Akuma to show up at the school, or Miss Bustier to show up and save the day??? Instead what she gets to answer her silent prayers is- ]
Adrien!
[ If looks could speak, hers would be saying "I don't know if I want to throttle you or kiss you right now for your timing but HELP ME." It occurs to her only after the fact that he'd just called her Pipes, a fact that does NOT miss the notice of their classmates, the girls giving gasps, as if Adrien had just given them a HUGE revelation.
Piper, for her part, has the decency to realize the misstep, smacking her forehead. ]
Guys, it's not-
[ "Pipes?? So you two have pet names for each other now? Adrien, you sly dog!"
[ Adrien felt his phone buzz a million times throughout his prolonged photoshoot, but he knew better than to check it. Even in between shots, while the camera crew was still setting up and he had time—Gabriel was very strict, and Adrien just didn't want to upset him, rebellious though he could be.
Just this once, though. Just this once, he kind of wishes he had. If he had checked his phone, even just once, he would have seen Piper's messages. Maybe he wouldn't have been able to leave, but at least he could have responded.
Now it's late. Now she's not responding.
"Come on, kid," Plagg says, after Adrien hung up his third call attempt. "Won't you see her tomorrow?"
"She said her dad left," Adrien replies, frowning. "I gotta check on her."
Plagg mumbled something that was muffled by the cloth of his jacket. Adrien kept up the pace, alternating between walking and running as he navigated the crowds of Paris.
[ The only thing about her old life that's really, truly, vividly clear is the negative emotion she'd felt at the time she was turned. Holding onto the hurt and frustration and anger is easy, too easy, and it's all she can think about.
Now she has two goals: Get the Miraculous from Ladybug and Car Noir and get to the airport to stop her father from leaving. If she has to make him listen she'll slam him with memories until he either comes around, or is too lost in nostalgia to care about anything else. Failing that she'll just have to make him stay put for once. Where Piper McLean had failed, Memento is determined to succeed, and gods have pity on anyone stupid enough to get in her way.
She'd just finished negotiating with Hawkmoth over name changes as Adrien raced towards the mansion. Unfortunately he was already too late by then. Villainous laughter echoes down to the streets below from where Memento stands perched atop a cafe rooftop, the same cafe where Piper had bought crepes for she and Adrien's second not-date. She doesn't notice any particular faces jumping out at her in the crowd at first, a fact that becomes obvious as she addresses them at large. ]
People of Paris, I hope you didn't make any big plans for tonight, because it's time for ALL of you to take a nice, long stroll down memory lane!
[ Keiichi has never been much of a shopper, but there's something to be said for retail therapy. Lunatia is larger than his home village by countless degrees, and with that size comes a variety of shops that puts anything he's ever known to shame.
It doesn't stop him from missing the simpler life he had there, but it does help distract him a bit. But he may have overdone it a bit, as the teetering stack of exotic board games he's carrying causes him no end of trouble walking. ]
Excuse me... sorry...!
[ He barely manages to avoid collision with a worried-looking pedestrian, his eyes lingering on the other person for a few seconds as he steadies himself. After catching his breath, he turns to take another step, and —
In his relief to have narrowly avoided one collision, he had taken a careless step and caused another. ]
Ah, crap!
[ Sealed (thankfully) boxes tumble in every direction, and the young man lands flat on his bottom. One glance is all it would take to show that only his pride is wounded. ]
[Lunatia might have a lot going on, but not even the bright lights and futuristic technology of the city can really distract Piper from her current inner turmoil. Recent events have been such that, try as she might, she just can't seem to keep her frustration in check. It's how she'd ended up on a restless stroll through level one.
In a moment of distraction, Piper's gaze is cast to the side to stare at an ad playing on a display in a window. A happy couple, with an overlay that, a second later she realizes is advertising some kind of condoms. When she whips her gaze back ahead rather sharply it's just in time to see the pile of boxes taking up her view.
Demigod reflexes can account for a lot, but even they aren't impervious to accidents. Piper, alarmed, yelps and then finds herself tumbling backwards from the force of the hit, catching herself on her hands with a grunt.
Prismals are already clearing a path, watching their step, and Piper, despite her anger, asks after the other person first, despite her irritation.]

It’s what Milady would expect of me.

In which Piper questions what her life has become.

So what's the deal, there? ]

Naturally. ]

Cat Noir??

She'll need him soon.
He finally settles atop one of Paris's larger department stores a good distance away from the action—a favorite of Chloe's where she liked to drag him to go shopping at least a couple times a month. Behind them, a neon sign flashed the department store's name.
It isn't until he sets Piper down that he feels his arms turn to noodles, but he's good at not letting it show. ]

Adriper? Pipien?? CAT SIREN??? I'm calling them Cat Siren. : The Big Reveal

He blinks. ]
Pipes? [ ...... ] Uh, what'd I miss?
no subject

At least the McLean house wasn't hard to spot. ]
no subject

no subject
